Goyard :: My Favorite Hidden Brand
One of my favorite understated and overlooked (in a good way) brands is Goyard. Their signature hand painted canvas totes, bags and luggage pieces are coveted around the world. Unless you know the brand, you would have no idea who this brand is, especially in North America, as their retail appearance is scarce however it does keeps them from not saturating the market.
I bought my first Goyard Saint Louis GM Tote in 2010 and I just loved the color Orange they had with this bag, the weight of the bag (as it is super light), the extra pocket wallet inside and it was a bag that I didn’t see everyone else wearing. With seeing so many LV, GG, CC logo’s everywhere on EVERYTHING - and then the MK’s of the world - it was refreshing to see a brand that was understated however a French classic from The House of Martin since 1792 and moving forward being the Goyard fashion house since 1852.
Loving all the history of this brand represents with their timeless classic designs plus I love that their monogram design is of a symbolic “Y” as it represents three centuries of the Goyard brand. Knowing that their monogram is hand screened, the colors of the bag determine the price of the bag. The Orange, Red and other bright colors are more expensive than a black Saint Louis tote. Take that into consideration when purchasing one as there can be a few hundred US dollar difference in prices.
Making a Goyard your own can lead you to their customization service. I have not used it yet however I know that you can have your initials, your name or even an image hand painted on your Goyard accessory plus you can add stripes in a variety of ways (vertical, horizontal or diagonal). My next Goyard purchase will include this customization service as I love all of my bags to have their own identity.
Have you heard of the Goyard brand? Do you recognize their monogram print?
