Too Many Designer on Designer Collaborations?

As we have seen collaborations from the most unlikely of duos to other brand teaming up together that just makes sense, we are now living in an age of cross-branding that is at an all time high! As we love a collab, as much as the next person, we are beginining to think that there might be too many designer on designer collaborations happening, possibly softening the brands market especially in the luxury sector.

As luxury brand such as Louis Vuitton team up with a skate wear brand Supreme and made a sell out collection, yes that was fun and moved the LV brand forward but looking to the future, would you do that again? Prada and Adidas are a good example as they have collaborated more than one year to produce limited edition Prada X Adidas shoes and limited accessories plus apparel. I really did not think that a pair of Adidas shoes which retail for less than $100 USD and have the Prada logo attached was worth the $575 USD INCREASE to $675 USD a pair for the collaboration.

As we love limited edition pieces and want to be as unique as the next individual fashionista, we have to start looking at what all this consumerism is doing to the market. When a brand teamed up with another unlikely brand it became actual news and there was some steam behind it. With so many collabs coming out, weekly at this point, I am becoming overwhelmed with keeping up with them on top of those marketing guru’s trying to sell one consumer to another consumers brands demographics. I think some brand needs to pair with each other possibly to be the next shock of shock collaborations, or why don’t we keep some of the branding unique and individualized?
