Heritage Auctions Virgil Abloh Louis Vuitton Steamer Trunk

This Spring 2022 we are thrilled to present for the very first time at Heritage Auctions, an incredibly rare, Louis Vuitton SS21 Virgil Abloh Malle Courrier Lozine 110 Steamer Trunk. This trunk is a distinct creation of Virgil Abloh, the transformative artistic director of Louis Vuitton's Menswear Collection, whose untimely death last year stunned the fashion world. Hailed as a creative genius, a Renaissance man and the Karl Lagerfeld of his generation, Abloh was considered "the most powerful Black executive in the most powerful luxury group in the world," by the New York Times. Abloh's trailblazing appointment was seen as a powerful step in the right direction for diversity.

Born to Ghanaian immigrants in the suburbs of Chicago, Abloh's rise to fashion prominence is perhaps even more remarkable and significant considering he didn't study fashion formally. Indeed, he grew up enmeshed in skateboarding and hip-hop and credited his seamstress mother with teaching him how to sew.

In addition to his position at Louis Vuitton, Abloh was the founder of his own brand, OffWhite and an inexhaustible collaborator with brands including Nike, Evian and Ikea. His designs not only combined art, fashion and music but intrinsically bridged classic styles with contemporary culture. His work has been exhibited at the Louvre, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago and the Gagosian.

This extremely limited edition trunk is the perfect embodiment of Abloh's visionary creativity and seamlessly merges the tradition and sophisticated craftsmanship of Louis Vuitton with Abloh's legendary street culture, high fashion esthetic.
