History of the Hermes Bolide Bag

The story behind this classic bag is when Emile-Maurice Hermes went to the United States to visit Henry Ford in 1923 to see his automobile production factory. After seeing that a zipper was used for the removable roof on Fords cars, he then took that same zipper idea and patent it in France by putting it in the middle of his bag design, creating the Bolide bag. It is has been said that The Bolide was initially named “le sac pour l’auto” or “The Bag for the Car”. The word Bolide literally means “Comet”, which was inspired by a nickname for sport cars.
The Hermes Bolide bag is very universal and can be worn as a tote bag plus it will have a strap along with it that you can wear it as a cross body or shoulder bag. This bag has stood through around a 100 years in fashion and it is still going strong.
